1. Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets
These fall into the liquid lipstick category, which you will be hearing a lot of. Liquid lipsticks are basically long-wear gel like formulas that set, much like a long wear eye shadow cream. The Bourjois ones do set, which I like, because you don't have to worry about them. The colour range is fantastic and they are middle ground in terms of price.
2. Sephora Cream Lip Stain
One of the best reds out there, there is a reason the internet is a buzz over this one. I haven't tried the other colours, but Sephora has done a good job with the selection. Kat Von D also released something very similar recently, but since Sephora owns this brand, I wonder if something's up. Mandarin muse looks quite similar to A-Go-Go!
3. YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Lip Stain
Their glossy lip stains have a great applicator. My favourite colour range is the mauve-plum shades which are fantastic. They stay glossy but are long wearing. Truly worth the money if you can splurge. I would go for a richer colour like a plum or a red, and that way you can wear one coat for a more subtle stain or three coats for a bold saturation of colour. This one is great to take on vacation too.
4. Tom Ford Matte Lipstick
Tom Ford Makeup is what dreams are made of- true luxury. His lipsticks are not just lipsticks but little pieces of art. Black Dhalia is a beautiful deep burgundy plum, and it works amazingly as a stain. I think a dark plummy lip and a light eye with lots of mascara is the perfect winter makeup.I would put this one on my Christmas list!
5. Revlon Colour Burst Matte Balm
Their matte chubby sticks have great colour payoff and are suited to those who like a creamy feeling on their lips. I think audacious and unapologetic are two of the best shades. These are good if you need a moisturizing lip product and want to try bolder colours. You aren't really spending a lot of money. Also, the Revlon website has a really interesting feature where you can see the colour on different faces- women of different ethnicities.
