Bridal Makeup Tips: Vinatge Inspiration

Vintage inspired weddings are making quite the comeback, and makeup is no exception. From the 20s to the 60s, every era has it’s own signature look. Here are some of my favourite looks:

     Forties Flare:

The forties were really a time for women to blossom. While the men were away at war, women went to work, and found a new sense of independence.  The hair and makeup from this time was still ultra feminine but simple, as supplies were becoming harder and harder to come by.  A beautiful burnt-orange lip with soft grey or green eye shadow and an extended, defined brow were key features of this look.  Lips and nails often matched and hair would be rolled and pinned for an easy but put-together coif.
For bridal makeup, the modern twist of the forties look is beautiful and classic. The yellows and oranges work well if you have a warmer skin tone.

Fifties Flare:

In the fifties, women were in full bloom. The boost to the economy from the war meant people were living and enjoying life. The fashion and beauty of the time reflected this care-free lifestyle. Bold red lips and thick, winged-out liquid liner was for every day. Gloves, fur and full dresses were all the rage and women resumed their place as homemakers and wives.

A softer version of the fifties look is flattering on many different faces. What is important is to find the right red for you. Play around with colour until you find something that suits you. Instead of applying straight from the tube, dab the lipstick on with your fingertips. Applying your lipstick as a stain is a more modern and wearable way to wear red lipstick. There are many products on the market that have staying power with different textures and colours. Remember, the more glossy and creamy a lipstick is, the more it will move around.
Another great way to incorporate vintage flavour into your wedding is with vintage cosmetics. The glamour from these looks extends into the packaging of the lipstick and powder compacts from times past.

These keepsakes can make a beautiful memory of your big day and make a great gift as well!
