Beauty Chameleon: Diane Kruger

It is a secret no longer...Diane Kruger is my girl crush and for more than just her choice in men! Kruger is a fashion risk-taker and red carpet darling, but for me, her shining star quality rests in her effortless yet defined makeup. Diane also takes risks with her makeup, but in these photos I want to highlight how balance and definition work in her favour, and how they will work for you as well.

These two looks are very different but have two key things in common: each look is defined and has overall symmetry.  One feature (typically eyes or lips) is the focus, and the other features are kept neutral, but defined to the same intensity. With the image on the left, Kruger's eyes glisten with a soft burnished coral shadow and charcoal liner.

With a soft and dewy look on the eyes-being the feature focus, her cheeks and lips have a hint of colour for definition, but stay neutral. So neutral means they are in the background, but still compliment her features.

With each area defined, eyes, lips and cheeks, the result is an overall look. There is a lightness and effortless appeal to Kruger's peachy plunge. A magenta blush or bold berry lip would compete with the eyes and take away from a complete unified look.

On the right we have a very different look, but the same guidelines apply: with matte pink lips, a little liquid liner is all the definition the eyes require. Her pale pink cheeks finish off the look. Her matte pink lips would be lost with a heavy smoky eye or bright coloured shadow.

Here Kruger rocks a beautiful neutral palette that most anyone can wear. Kruger embraces her fair skin tone and wears colours that mimic her natural colouring. With light eyes, she chooses a sparkly silver to bring light to her eyes. Silver eye shadow or liner is universally flattering and enhances any eye size or colour. Pink lips close to her own lip shade add fullness and definition. Groomed brows, soft rose tinted cheeks and a swipe of mascara finishes off this natural beauty. This would also be a great bridal makeup look-especially for those who don't normally wear that much makeup.
